From the Talmud: BP oil spill disaster - a sign of Moshiach times?

Something good may still develop from the BP disaster...

Talmud, Sanhedrin 98a: Discussing various signs of the Messianic era:
Rabi Chanina states: when there will be no fish available (even) for a unwell person - as the waters will be solidified like oil...

  1. Did you see the continuation of that Gemara?

    Rabi Chama bar Chanina states:
"אין בן דוד בא עד שתכלה מלכות הזלה מישראל"
which Rashi explains: "שלא תהא להם שום שולטנות לישראל - אפילו שולטנות קלה ודקה"
(before Moshiach arrives, Israel will lose all its powers to rule).

I am not sure how religious Zionists explain that..

Don't worry Moshiach Now, the worst-case-scenario experts are saying that this disaster could continue til December, in the meantime the oil circumnavigates the globe and kills off much of the ocean food chain.

Let me suggest that witnessing this Gamara before our eyes is NOT good news. It means Hashem is trying to tell us, wake up, wake up, do teshuva now before I notch up the pressure to the next level... C'mon Yidden, get the message...http://www.zeevhatorah.org/content/bp

Maybe they hold like Maharsha over Rashi in interpreting the gemara, such that they would render it "until even the pettiest kingdom ceases to have power over Israel."

Regardless, I don't think that the meaning of this gemara is the BP spill. See here for why I think it is not so.
