AJN WATCH - the on-line voice of Australian Orthodox Jewry observes and comments on matters of interest to that community. We particularly monitor prejudice and monopolistic abuse of influence in the pages of the Australian Jewish News - the main source of information to and about Australian Jewry. We spotlight errors, expose misrepresentations and vigorously advocate our community's positions.
Good chap our Michael definitely no lefty.
ReplyDeleteI recall at the previous election someone local was badmouthing Danby because of his support for gay rights and thereby campaigning for his liberal opponent.
ReplyDeleteThis time as most know the liberal man is an openly practising homosexual. But did we hear anything from that same individual? Not that I know of. Strange, no?
Michael Danby is known for being pro-Israel. At the same time he is a member of the most anti-Israel party in the government. How does he sleep at night? Australia's political position on Israel doesn't count for much on the world stage anyway, so all his pro-Israel posturing doesn't really accomplish much for us practically. The most important question is what does Michael Danby actually do for us here in his district? Seems to be not very much, he is just an other Labour party hack, another apologist for the misrable failures of Labour. He depends on the Jewish vote to ensure his seat each election and is not critically examined by the mob of Jewish voters who vote for him out of tribalism. I would like to see how he would hold up to some cold hard scrutiny. I surmise not very well.
ReplyDeleteShoshana you are talking nonsense. The policies towards Israel by both major parties is almost identical. And Danby has been a big force in ensuring that Jewish schools get enormous funding from the govt. So please show some hakoras hatov.
ReplyDeleteEnormous funding for the schools? You really care, adassnik, if the other schools get money, like Mount Scopus or Bialik? I highly doubt that! So, what you really mean to say is that as far as you're concerned a politician is there just so you can get your handouts for your own school, right? What about all the other quality of life issues we face living here in this city? Do you adassnik, give a hoot about the issues facing Jews (or anyone else) outside of your own school population? I strongly surmise you do not. I believe you are only concerned with your own narrow parochial interests. I assert that if Michael Danby were the most corrupt pol around who did nothing but go on fancy junkets to Israel and slurp herring at all the functions in town (which is what it seems he does in any case), that you would not give a hoot as long as you got your goodies for your precious schools. Name some of his accomplishments for our community. I would like to hear them. As a strong apologist for Labour he is supporting the Greens anti-business high tax irrational destructive agenda. There is a vast difference between Labour and Liberal, on the issues of Israel and others too, but you obviously aren't educated enough to know what these differences are. And the Greens, by the way, who are attached to Labour's hip, are the most virulent anti-Jewish party in Parliament. But maybe you, adassnik, don't care that Danby is supporting the most pro-Palestinian/Hamas party out of the two major parties. You've got your share of maimon and that's all that counts. Don't try to cover up your narrow agenda by trying to sound high minded with your preaching to me about hakares hatov--where is your ahavas yisroel? Sounds like Danby knows that if he throws a few dollars to some Jewish schools then narrow minded self serving Jews will vote for him each and every election regardless if he is selling our district down the river with Labour-Green anti-Zionist, anti-Semitic, anti-business, nanny state, left wing rubbish. And just to name a few issues facing our community: water, housing, traffic, anti-
ReplyDeleteSemitic attacks, general crime, drugs, security, child safety, community services for single moms, handicapped, poorer people, and so on and so forth.
Another thing: I woner if Adassnik likes MD's position on gay rights
ReplyDelete"Federal Member for Melbourne Ports, Michael Danby has hit out at claims made by a member of the Malaysian Parliament that he is a “homosexual activist”.
The comment was made on April 14 while Danby was in the region, participating in the World Movement for Democracy 2010 Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“To accuse me of a being a strong supporter of the gay and lesbian community is a badge I wear with pride,” Danby said in a statement last week.
Youth chief of Malaysia’s ruling UMNO party, Khairy Jamaluddin called Danby a “homosexual activist” in Malaysia’s Parliament because of a petition organised by Danby criticising the ongoing trial of Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on the charge of sodomy."
Yes Shoshana, unlike you, I am pro-Klal Yisroel - ALL Jews - and care for them all even those that don't live their lives as I do. And yes I really want Scopus and Bialik to get as much funding as possible - even if I wouldn't enrol my kids there. Every school is necessary for their type of community and demographic.
ReplyDeleteHad you merited to do more studying of Torah texts you would've learned that hakoras hatov, showing appreciation to a person who has been good to you - is a most important Jewish/Torah trait. Being an ingrate is pretty low form.
Danby has been good to all of us - every single Jewish school has benefitted from his lobbying on their behalf. He fully deserves our support and indeed our vote. (And btw, who do you suggest we vote for? The Liberal's gay Ekendahl, or maybe the Sex party?)
I really can't understand how you can repeatedly attack an MP who has always been available for us.
I have been following the Silcove ramblings via a number of local blogs and notice thatshe has 2 personalities:
ReplyDeleteWhen acting sweet as saccharim - butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, she tags herself as The repenting Jewess. But when writing as the true Silcove - as we relly know her, she signs her name.
Interesting. Any other nom-de-plumes?
Personal attacks are not necessary and the moderator should erase them. Does insulting me for not liking the politician that you like merit me being attacked? Just for having a different opinion than you? Do you wish we lived in a dictatorship? Well, we don't. This is a democracy and we are all allowed to to state our views. I am entitled NOT to like the phony politician some of you seem to love and just because I do not agree with you this does not mean that I deserve to be personally attacked for it. I did not attack anyone personally. I simply state my firm belief that MD is a phony political hack and his time to go is long overdue. And what answer do I get? Attacked for not learning enough Torah, for having two personalities and so on, just because I dare to state an opinion that is different from Mr. Adassnik and Esther. Such intolerant, mean-spirited, narrow minded, stupid nastiness reveals that the poster of such comments is in no position to tell anyone that they have not learned enough of the Holy texts.
ReplyDeleteTry to calm down, adassnik and Esther, and stop screeching. Yes, there are actually people in this world who hold opinions different to yours. Imagine that! Take a deep breathe and instead of riling yourselves up with hatred for me, ( hatred for your fellow Jew is like a disease, and you need to consult your local rabbi for a cure.) try and logically state another accomplishment of MD besides school funding. Unlike you, I am open to hearing your views if said respectfully and without animus.
By the way, Michael Rose, The Repenting Jewess is not a nom-de-plume. It is the name of my blog, and if you read my blog www.repentingjewess.blogspot.com, you will see my name is all over it. Why are you being so mean and nasty? Why do you hate me? What did I ever do to you? I don't even know you (and don't want to). And you surely do not know me.

ReplyDeleteMichael Danby ..a member of the most anti-Israel party in the government. .
What rubbish! Labour is more anti-Israel than the Greens?
Actually the ALP and the Libs are almost equal in their support for Israel (despite the passport affair- which the Libs would have handled in a similar way).
The ALP stimulus ideas got us through the GFC - at the top of the ladder according to the Nobel prize winner Stiglitz.
Stop attacking like a child
Funny how you don't notice your language and style where you viciously write about people
ReplyDeletehere and in other local Jewish blogs. But when anyone responds in similar vein you get all hurt.
Give respect and you'll get respect
I highly suspect that walter, adassnik, and Michael Rose are the same person. You can make any accusations against me you want, no one cares, and you only make yourself look petty and mean spirited.
ReplyDeleteNow to the substance of the discussion:
ALP is economically irresponsible, anti-Zionist/Semitic to the core, pro late term abortion, pro crazy anti-business Green, and pro gay marriage. Again I ask, how does an ostensibly frum Jew like Michael Danby sleep at night?
I believe Michael Danby is a deeply conflicted and a totally insincere person. A frum Jew who truly has yiras shamayim and follows Torah cannot possibly be a proponent of Labour. Stop putting Danby on a pedestal and let's speak the obvious truth that he is a political opportunist without solid principles who would sell himself to the satan if it would mean getting the votes he needs. You want to vote for him because there don't seem to be any better options--fine-- but don't pretend that he is a 'loyal friend' to the Jewish community, or that he is some sort of knight in shining armor fighting for Jewish/Torah causes. He uses the Jewish community for his own personal gain.
Again I ask, what has he done to improve our daily life? I am waiting for a list.
The Family First party looks interesting and I will be watching them. This Liberal guy running against Danby is openly gay, but if he is a good economic manager and is good on other issues then he may be an improvement over the 'vote for me cause I am a Jew' Danby.
Stick to the issues.
ReplyDeleteAnd remember, a vote for Labour is a vote for the Greens which I agree, is the most anti-Semitic party after Labour.
The Liberal government left us with surplus that the Labour government swiftly squandered on scams and boondagles like BER, the insulation scheme, etc., leaving us in debt in fee short years. They spend like drunken soldiers with little to show for it except for higher and higher taxes, higher and higher rates, and an encroaching nanny state that is crushing business and our personal freedoms.
A friend of mine just wrote me the following comment I agree with 100%:
ReplyDelete"Are you in Melbourne Ports Shosh or are you somewhere else. Michael Danby and Kevin Ekendahl!
Michael Danby is ALP and XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX NO NO NO
Kevin EkenDahl is LIBERAL and is inspiring. I hope he gets in. I was shocked when talking to a friend who I consider very sensible and I found out she and her daughter voted Labor because Danby is good for Jews.
Well Ekendahl is a yiddishe kid and he is a far better bet than Danby. Danby is a vote for Gillard and the ALP and their debt ridden blunderbus. Danby's performance in the debate was petty. He reminded the audience that a vote for Kevin Ekendahl is a vote for Tony Abbott. Good I want to vote for Abbott and the Liberals and I did. The Liberals need to be put back in so the country can get on track financially and in health and education services."

wHAT DIGUSTING LASHAN HARA AND REC HILUT AGAINST A FINE AND DECENT PERSON WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD KIND-HEARTED human being. He is well known for his menchlechkeit to all - both before and after becoming a MP.
You nasty diatribes show that you are simply a merchant of hate against the ALP and anyone who represents it. But keep it up I can't think of a single person who will vote Liberal because SS demands it
B’H
ReplyDeleteTo be honest Shoshanna has hit the nail on the head here and it is far better to steer clear of Jooylieya and her mob of Union stalwarts.

As for summing up Michael I agree totally and then we go to the red headed madame herself who lives with her boyfriend and tells us quite blithely that ‘raising kids is easy’. Yeah well it probably is for some but if you want to do it right, it ain’t easy. Anyway how does Julia know this? Is her experience gleaned from her teenage babysitting days. Julia and the Fabians can go take a flying leap as far as I am concerned.

Good question Shosh which no one has answered as yet. Kevin had been involved as a volunteer in a few worthwhile organisations and I for one do not want to vote for someone who stands for gay marriages and gay rights. Enough of Labor we do not need Michael Danby who is the same as sly Gillard.
>>>Kevin EkenDahl is LIBERAL and is inspiring. I hope he gets in. I was shocked when talking to a friend who I consider very sensible and I found out she and her daughter voted Labor because Danby is good for Jews.Well Ekendahl is a yiddishe kid<
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, Shoshana that we liberals were duped. No one, especially Kevin, ever told us prior to his preselection that he was gay. There is no way that we would have chosen him. I consider this non-revelation as pure deception. Having a homosexual candidate will ensure that Melb Ports becomes blue ribbon Labor.
It is noble of you to publicly show that your loyalty to the party overshadows the allegiance to your chabad orthodox torah concerns and it would be great if the Liberals could attract more such members.
I have many Orthodox Torah concerns, but I am a pragmatist and believe a gay Lib still will be better for us than a straight Labourite. I am not a loyal party member of Lib, I just loathe all lefties' politics.
ReplyDeleteHow can I teach all this to you on one foot? Haven't you been paying attention at all the last few years? The ALP/Greens want to control every aspect of our lives, believe that government should tell you how to live, what to eat, how much to consume, restrict a businessman's personal choices, tax us into oblivion to support their social engineering experiments, and outrageous Green agenda, indoctrinate your kids etc. Look at the UK, wanto to be like that? Then if so, vote ALP/GREENS. They are believers in the Nanny State or Big Brother. Have you noticed? Probably not, and that is exactly how totalitariansim gains its foothold, because most people simply do not bother to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteOK seeing that Godwin's Law has been invoked, it's time to close this thread.
ReplyDelete[From Wiki: Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies] is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1989 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches]
Many of the posts here are now simply repeats of earlier comments. So unless your comment has something new to say - it will be rejected.
What's all this talk of Michael Danby being a frum Jew? He was visiting a number of polling places on election day (Shabbat).
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, Danby uses government funds to pay for his page 2 campaign advertisements in the gay print media. I'm confident he didn't share that detail that with the Jewish community in the lead-up to the election.
ReplyDeleteMikey you'r a a perpetual moaner. Never satisfied or happy. If Danby had NOT advertised in your favourite media you would've kvetched. Now that he does, that too is no good.
ReplyDelete(Don't know why you homos are called 'gay'. Gay is the last thing that you are.
"Miserable' would be a far better label.)
But I suppose that you truly are miserable at the fact that Danby demolished your gay pal Ekendahl. (And wasn't he foolish to allow himself to be nominated for a seat he had not a hope in hell in winning?)
Where did you jump to that weird conclusion from?
ReplyDeleteHardly a kvetch. That was an FYI. I don't like Danby spending my tax money anywhere to prop up his egotistical career. I'd rather he didn't spend it on his disingenuous campaigns, in either the Jewish press or the gay press. It's your money he's spending on the gay vote as much as mine.
You really like being a gay-hater don't you. Of course, if people go after you Jews it doesn't get such a good reception. Who's got the double standards?
I am not pals with Ekendahl. As for your claim on him being 'demolished', you're wrong. Danby only got 1,177 (5%) more primary votes than Ekendahl which isn't what I'd call a huge margin in anyone's language.
Danby got preferences from the Greens, Sex Party and Secular Party (likely a large % of the disaffected GAY vote), which would have given him the advantage. If those parties had preferenced differently Danby would have been out of his fat tuches.
xoxo
"local Liberal activist" claimed that had the Libs known that Kevin Ekendahl was gay he would not have been preselected. I doubt it. Certainly the Liberal Party has no history of such bigotry. Back in the '80s I was somewhat involved in the Liberal Party, and there were some very senior MPs who were widely known to be gay. They weren't open about it, that wasn't done then; but everyone in the party knew, and certainly everyone in their preselection conventions knew, and it wasn't an issue. In any case, it's not as if he was keeping it a secret; if you wanted to know about it you should have asked him. Did you expect him to tell you every detail of his biography?
ReplyDeletemikey bear doesn't like danby spening tax dollars for advertising. but then which MP doesn't do so? especially he he wishes to be reelected.
ReplyDeleteyou know of any MP winning without advertising?
and what have you got against the labour party anyway?
