While Chabadnik disapproves of footballers at a Chanukah function (and he may or may not have a point) I'd like you to publish my thanks and the appreciation of many families in the frum community to Caulfield Chabad House for 'importing' Chassidic singer and entertainer Lipa Schmeltzer to Melbourne. Lipa and his songs are # 1 in frum communities worldwide (I hear the Gold's too sell quite a lot of his CDs). So thank you for giving us and our kids a real Chanukah treat.
And talking of the footballers, the ad says that they will be from Carlton. However following the recent miracle of Collingwood winning the grand final - it is the Magpies that should be celebrating "al nisecho ve'al nifle'osecho"...

ReplyDeleteLooks like there won't be any footballers at the Park - after all.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the malvern Chabad thing?
ReplyDeleteRe AFL footballers at Chanukah functions - I think it's time for Ajnwatch to repost last years article "Down with Chanukah" - by the late Rabbi Meir Kahana.

And also this excellent article in the Boston Globe:

In a Sicha (כ"א כסלו תש"מ), the Rebbe explained how the goal of the Yevanim and the Misyavnim was to remove the separation that exists between Yidden and goyim, and educating children to be similar to the other nations. This is worse than placing decrees regarding Torah and mitzvos, because its effect remains even after the decree is over. It begins with something ' small ' , through ' lighting up ' the way for a child with ' oil ' that is contaminated with goyishkeit, claiming that it produces the same light. When one educates children improperly, drawing ' light ' from a source which is not tahor, this leads a child to become a Misyaven (ר"ל).
ReplyDeleteThe lesson from Chanukah is: when lighting up Yiddishe homes, one must use only pure Yiddishe light, uncontaminated by any goyishkeit. By doing so, with mesiras nefesh (not gi vin g in to the majority, who also appear to be stronger), we will be victorious, for Hashem is on our side.
B'H
ReplyDeleteBut we get into awful trouble when we say that we want to bring our children up in pure Yiddishkit that is uncontaminated by the goyishe gushmius of this very material, anything goes world. :-) We get told we are conducting wars against homosexuality and etc etc BLAH BLAH BLAH
Whilst I think Chabad Youth do wonderful work in the Kiruv world. They at the same time are feeding our Frum children the opposite, "secularism".The whole point of Chanuka is how the Greeks tried not to kill the Jews but to be like them. Here we are doing the same. The highlight of Sunday in the park is not the Menorah it is the excuse to have a gathering of Jewish people and entertain them with a concert with NO Mechitza! When the organizers were asked, the organizes said "how can we organize a Mechitza in the park!"Now that is a Heter! In Israel they can have a Mechitza down the whole of Gan Sacher. The fact that Lipa did not make it one of his conditions is in itself shows us the type of Jew he is. I am sure he had a list of demands inorder to make the trip to Australia i.e. Buisiness class etc. and wouldn't of flown had the list not been met. You would think a Mechitza would be number one!It is one thing having a sit down event (although I am not sure what the heater would be anyway) but to have an open air concert without a Mechitza is that what Chabad Youth is all about.Do whatever you want as long ss it brings in the crowds! I am sure this is what the Rebbe would of been proud of! How they are loosing the way fast, and the kids are the sacrifices.
ReplyDeleteReb Reuven (Lipa’s father) speaking at the Satmar Seudas Hodo’eh last week.

That is Lipa's uncle - not father
ReplyDeleteAnonymous Why stop with a mechitzah in the Park why not demand a mechitzah for Lipa on the plane? When you travel do you demand a mechitzah? when you go to Glicks do you demand for a mechitzah ? when you walk down the Street do you demand a mechitzah ? if your answer is no then my question is WHY ? Australia is not Israel and the Event is diffeent to the Events in Israel
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteCHanuka in the Park is arranged by chabad house of caufeild under the auspices of Rabbi Y.Y. Gutnick, not Chabad Youth
