Shmuley Boteach - the rabbi of the groupies!

AJNWatch has previously commented upon Shmuley Boteach and his outlandish and peculiar ideas and behaviour (see here, here, and here). He is back again in Australia and, unsurprisingly, a guest speaker in Caulfield Shul. That's the direction CHC have taken under their latest 'management' and they sure have found the perfect match.

After all, if a Shul can't attract the crowds with Torah and Tefillah, maybe "Kosher sex" and "Kosher Jesus" will bring in the masses (no pun intended). Come to think of it, they would probably have no problem inviting Jesus himself to deliver a sermon or two. (After all, they did invite a "galach" to "feer tish" for them at a Shabbat meal.)

No doubt the femalefolk will be sporting their "Shmuley groupie" T-shirts and drinking from "Shmuley-groupie" mugs?

PS: What next, Shmuley? "Kosher groupies"?

PPS: For those reading this who may wonder what a groupie is, here's the definition from the on-line Free Dictionary:

groupie [ˈgruːpɪ]
(Music / Pop Music) Slang, an ardent fan of a celebrity, esp a pop star: originally, often a girl who followed the members of a pop group on tour in order to have sexual relations with them

  1. I notice that in your links to previous Boteach postings that you omit his brilliant article in defence of Rubashkin which you published a couple of years ago and is in your archives. While some of his ways are a bit outlandish, he has been remarkably successful in outreach over many years. Perhaps Caulfield Shul should have followed the initiative of Adass in Melbourne by doing something more sensible with their members' money, like redeeming donkeys.

  3. 1) Redeeming a donkey's firstborn happens to be a Mitzvas Asei de'orayseh

    2) It wasn't arranged by Adass but rather by 2 private individuals who happen to davven there.

  4. Shmuley is a loose cannon. Just watch him if and when he gets into Congress. The media already seems to be sniffing around.
See this in the NY Daily News

  5. After reading about Boteach and his groupies, I am no longer am surprised why Chabad has dumped him.

Can anyone imagine a Catholic priest selling Tshirts with his picture on it to his groupies?

    This is truly sick stuff.

Good answer and to the point Nathan. Some people always like to have a snide dig at Torah observant Jews because they want to make up their our brand of treif Judaism and try and pretend it is Kosher. Like Boteach I guess. Weird stuff, but then so many are lost in the gushmius of this world today that they can not tell the difference between Kosher and Treif.
Better a Jew who knows his failings and short comings than one who tries to make treif kosher. Doesn't work. Sabbat Shalom.

  7. Have a close look at the picture of Shmuley on that T-shirt crowd surfing with dozens of - presumably - female arms in the air trying to grab him.

    Rabbi? Congressman?
Has the world gone completely mad?
